Baltimore Police On Right Track This Halloween; Sex Offenders Required to Post Signs

Baltimore, Maryland police are requiring sex offenders to place signs outside their house this Halloween that say “No candy served here" or signs informing that a sex offender lives in the house.

I think this action is brilliant and the person who initiated this should be given a raise. Signs like this should go up all across the country for those who still are brave enough to trick or treat. I can see how this would allow a lot of peace for parents as well as offer huge protection for kids.

Fox News ran a special on this topic in which Dr. Frank Berlin who treats sex offenders felt opposite this belief. He said that as longs as kids are in groups or going door to door with their parent, there should be no cause for alarm. He stressed that these offenders have served their time and should be allowed to start their life over.

My question is, what planet is he from? Does he not watch the news and see that these pedophiles are stocking kids. Would Halloween not give offenders the right to see what kids are in the neighborhood or find possible victims?

I think the signs are a brilliant way to protect our kids. My husband, playing the devil’s advocate, asked how as Christians are we to show these people love? My response is that there is a difference between showing love and handing over your kids to be hurt. God gives you spiritual discernment and in this case in Maryland, I think He is giving a lot of extra help. Do we show love by not stigmatizing these people? I think not. I think that the only way we can show them love is to pray for them and then keep our family away for their own safety.

You can never know what goes on in someone’s head. Therefore, as a parent, you have a responsibility to keep your children safe. I would love to see this initiative go nationwide this Halloween to bring some safety into this night known for its mischief. I would love to hear your thoughts as well in the comments.

David, I have to have some form of action. . .Not sure of anything else I can do besides praying for my own family's safety. Only way I know of to show love. . . Not easy to do or something I like-easier to be sick at my stomach for the type of people they are, but they are still human.
