Battle Lines Are Being Drawn: Christians Take On Oprah

An email campaign has started to notify Christians as to the dangers of Oprah and her new belief systems. The video sent with the email will make any Christian's skin begin to crawl with disbelief and shock. Check out the video for yourself:
Just to counteract her endless misinformed logic (the nicest way I can put it), I will turn to scripture. Scripture is God-breathed so as a Christian when something challenges our beliefs, we are instructed to turn to the Word of God for answers. Here is what I have found in response to this video.
"If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree with the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness in a means to financial gain." I Timothy 6:3-5
I saw this scripture and I could not help but pass it on. Does it not describe Oprah exactly? It is a description of what her and her show is and has been.
To explain how quick a misinterpreted truth can cause trouble, just listen to Oprah's testimony. She tells a story of being in church in her late 20's and listened as the Pastor told a story about God. During the sermon, the pastor made the remark that God was a jealous God. She did not see how that could be possible. Unfortunately, I guess she could not find a Bible. Her response is that God is love not jealousy. The truth is that God is a jealous God out of love for us. He set for commandments in the Old Testament for the protection of the people. The quote is from Exodus 20:5-6 in context of worshiping idols. I think she wasn't really paying attention to begin with.
You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
God wants us for himself. He doesn't want us to substitute things, drugs, people, money, lust, etc. in place of Him. Yes, He is jealous. He wants what is best for us. He wants me to spend eternity with Him. So why is it a bad thing for Him to be jealous when I do substitute idols. He loves me more than anything or anyone can imagine. It is not a human love. He loves me despite me on a personal level. Therefore, jealousy would be an emotion He would have when I turn to other idols as opposed to Him.
Oprah accuses Christians of trapping God in this box by creating all these rules. God creates rules for our freedoms and safety. Realizing that He would have died on the cross if it were only me alive in the whole world is way out of the box.
Realizing that He is not human and not loving me based on how much service I do, how silent I am, how I look or follow the rules even, is more out of the box then she can ever imagine. Basing a religion system on feelings is absurd. My feelings change by the second. I take faith in the fact that God doesn't. God doesn't change. His Word is true today, yesterday and tomorrow and no amount of feelings, silence or breathing will change that.
Finally, I just want to add to the woman in the audience who was trying to talk when Oprah cut her off. Oprah was saying there are many paths that lead to salvation. The Bible is very clear.
Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him. John 14:6-7
The sad thing is that Oprah obviously does not know God. What she is teaching is extremely dangerous and by ignoring the fact that she is powerful is also dangerous.
God gives believers discernment and looking into Oprah's eyes, I see no light despite this new method of finding light that she has found.
I am not looking to argue, but the danger of this belief system has made me react. Christians are already forwarding the email that is asking for a call to action. I agree. Christians should be prepared to defend their beliefs and lead others to Christ in such days that can be harmful to unbelievers.

Top-level comments on this article: (6 total)Abigail, thanks for exposing Oprah's real beliefs. I have never trusted her since I discovered that she was living in sin with a man she's not married to. That alone disqualifies her from pontificating about anything, in my opinion.Terry, you are exactly right. I've felt that way for a long time. Thanks for the comment!
Abigail, you are exactly right, what she is teaching with the massive audience she has, is very dangerous indeed. I am presently working on an article refuting what she has said and is teaching. I also received that video via an email from a friend. Great articleThanks Joel. I look forward to reading yours as well. If enough of us counter her, maybe all of our little audiences will add up to her big one!
Hi Abigail, very well laid out. 1 Timothy 4:2-10 is coming to life before our eyes. Keep sharing the truth. Blessings to you! Thanks, Teresa! And to you too!
Hi Abigail, Like what you showed and wrote. I operate a no charge outreach called The X-Press Line that addresses these kind of issues and have warned many of the callers of the dangers involved. In fact, I have dealt with many sho have unknowingly, unwittingly got involved in these sorts of things and ended up being internalized with actual demonic forces who claim they are these so called beings of light, spirit guides etc. If any one wants help or additional info please call me, Mark Dobbs at 204-261-6116. This is totally a no charge service.
Much implied and expressed intolerance here. The scriptures given are prime examples of brain washing techniques. No matter what your beliefs are, you should never be afraid of exploring or thinking, and any 'master' who tells you otherwise deserves suspicion. Anyone who professes love and acts on it, is a worthy person and I'm sure Jesus would be more than willing and able to love and forgive - if there is anything to be forgiven. A true God would be inclusive, not exclusive. This is where religion goes astray and leads to hate, war and destruction. I'm not against God, but religion has much to answer for.Hannah, thanks for the comment. It depends on what you mean by intolerance. If you mean intolerance of wrong teaching and misguided "teachers," then color me intolerant! If you mean intolerant of any person who doesn't believe exactly like I do, then I take offense to that. On your other points, why would a true God be inclusive? what would He have to gain by not having standards? The hard truth is the true God is very, very exclusive. He's so exclusive that no one can be allowed in on his (or her) own merits. We couldn't do it. We can not be good enough on our own to be what God expects us to be, which is why He sent His Son to pay the price for us. To pay admission for us, if you will. To me, that's a true God. a God who, despite His extreme exclusivity, still finds a way to include us. And I am thankful! On a side note, I would encourage you to find your namesake, Hannah, in the Old Testament of the Bible. Her truth is a good one! One of my favorite prayers.
totally loved this article. I have always felt this way about her. Does she think her vein word will blot out those of the SUPREME ALLMIGHTY LORD OF HOSTS? Whatever Oprah! Pity, none of that money or fame has bought her a shred of wisdom. She is lucky that a true prophet of GOD has not bestowed upon her a "prophet's curse". Thank you so much for your other articles, I havent read them all but i will.
