Scientology Controversies Heat Up With Kidman Wanting Kids Out; Video Exposes Truth

Scientology has been a topic for some time with Tom Cruise going what many folks refer to as "crazy." The so-called religion has recently become mainstream as news of celebrities turning to the religion based of a fictional book by L. Ron Hubbard continues to shock many people. The latest Scientology headlines have begun to stir up some controversy for the belief system.
Actor Jason Beghe has an interview posted on YouTube supposedly denouncing the beliefs of Scientologists everywhere. The video does look damaging to the religion, but unfortunately you would have to be in scientology to understand any of it. I would embed it here, but it has a lot of language. So here is the link, http://youtube.com/watch?v=NVuTapNuB74
Beghe does say that scientology is a rip-off and it doesn't deliver what it promises. Beghe had spent over 12 years as one of the organization's biggest success stories. Here is an overview of Beghe's life in scientology.
The video is long, but informative. This was interesting to me. I guess I never understood the extent of what they believed. It is just so bizarre to me.
John Travolta and Kelly Preston are accused of misdiagnosing their own child because of their involvement with the church of scientology. Apparently, their son suffers from what most believe to be autism, but because scientology does not recognize autism they believe he has something else entirely. It just seems weird that a so-called religion would believe that you can never get sick or have certain illnesses. I guess the concept is so foreign to me that I can't grasp it.
The latest news craze concerns Tom Cruise's friend Will Smith. Smith is a self-proclaimed Christian, but looks to be straddling the line these days. "I am a Christian. I am a student of all religions," said the actor, reports MSN. So which is it? The church of Scientology is currently actively trying to recruit Smith. An article Radar Magazine claims that Scientology is making a "strong play" to snag Smith and Pinkett as a way to make inroads within the African American community.
The religion itself just seems very exclusive. It seems to require a lot of money and only want certain type of people. Any thoughts on the latest headlines?

Hi Abigail, As someone who grew up with a preacher father I can tell you that people can pull religion out of thin air, at a moments notice. Too many times an actors influence on the screen translates into real life. A great article. Very informative.
Abigail, Any religion which pulls a family apart is suspect. I hope Nicole, as the children's mother, has at least equal sway over their views and say over their lives. They should be open to all the possibilities of the world and, when adults, given the opportunity to choose. I don't understand what sway Scientology has over so many of Hollywood's and music's stars, though. How can it be seen as anything but a cult? I guess too many stars are insecure at the personal core. Perhaps that is why they are so good at portraying so many different people on screen. But any belief which separates families is questionable. And any belief which involves handing over millions of dollars should be investigated. But, then, to my mind, religion itself is suspect. Belief and models of behaviour can be a positive, but religion tends to breed exclusivity, intolerance and too often, hatred. Good article, and I wish Nicole luck, or more specifically, her children.
I think you are just taking this data directly from "news" sites. Do you actually have any personal dealings with Scientologists? or do you just follow the hate mongers?I have been in Scientology for 18 years and I would never belittle anyone's religion. I have friends from all kinds of faiths and never push anything down anyone's throat.I suggest you get your facts straight by talking to the actual people rather than news reporters or those that hate all good people or any spiritual betterment programs.
