When a friend of mine recently announced she was getting a Goldendoodle as a pet for her family, I was a little taken aback.

"A golden what?" I said laughing.

"A goldendoodle," she exclaimed.

I have to admit the first time I saw the little pup, I was sold. I now declare myself as a very Pro Goldendoodle person.

The adorable Goldendoodle is a cross between a golden retriever and a poodle. It is a new crossbreed that was started in the United States and Australia around the mid-1990's.

There are endless benefits for families to get a Goldendoodle as their family pet. Here are a list of those benefits.

Easy to train
Goldendoodles are known as extremely intelligent dogs. They are known for being easily trained. When was the last time that you brought a puppy home that took direction and did not struggle with potty training? The goldendoodle is easily trained making the new home process go a lot smoother.

Sweet Dogs
As a past owner of a Lab, dog's personalities are important to me. Having young kids, I need a dog that is friendly and will not hurt the kids. Goldendoodles are known for being very affectionate and loving. They are very social and love the attention they get from kids.

Hypoallergenic
The goldendoodles are well suited for people with allergies and asthma. They shed very little. My friend who is very allergic to dogs has yet to have any allergic reaction to the goldendoodle.

Healthy
The Goldendoodles have a life expectency of 12 to 15 years. As a parent, it is important to me that I am not going to have to explain to my kids very early on in their life about the issue of death. Some believe that crossing two purebred lines with one another, they produce an offspring that tends to be healthier. My experience is that this is true with the goldendoodle.

Goldendoodles make great pets for any family and come in two sizes miniature and standard depending on what your tastes are as far as big dogs versus small dogs. If you are looking for a easy loving, low maintenance dog, the goldendoodle will be a perfect fit to your family.
