A new documentary is quickly gaining publicity that tackles an issue that many Christians face every day. "Why is the gospel of Love dividing America?"
Lord Saves Us From Your Followers is the brainchild of Dan Merchant. A man who put on a bumper sticker suit and hit the streets to find the reason why Christianity is such a divisive religion.
Christians face head on many beliefs every day. I, personally, have been accused of being judgmental, angry, fanatical and made fun of, etc. just for voicing that I am a Christian.
Why does the American people view Christians so badly? This movie tackles this issue as well as has a book to coincide with the movie.
While this movie does address the hard issues, it is not something you would take your kids to. There is inappropriate language and discussions, drugs, etc.
There is a lot of talk about Christians not loving the gays, etc. I have seen this trend and hatred towards Christians grow continually over the last few years. Many media outlets take pride in exposing their mistakes and faults when it comes to affairs, etc.
The film's point is to show that Christians are not reaching their secular world. Here is what I think (not that anyone asked, but I am going to share).
I don't think we are reaching those that Christ reached. There is not a day that goes by that I feel Christ would not be out loving on people or doing more then we do every day. But do I hate fellow Christians? Never!
Christians are all sinners and they are all human. I think just because someone says they are a Christian or pastor even, we want them to be supernatural. It doesn't work that way.
I think the issue with homosexuality continues to be taken out of context. I think every time someone wants to bring up what is wrong with Christians, they immediately go to this issue. One person made a statement and every Christian in the U.S. gets called a hypocrite. I don't get it.
I understand homosexuals feel continually discriminated against, but I don't think it is right to lump an entire group as one person. I know some very loving Christians that always love despite sexual origin or any other kind of sin.
I guess what I am trying to say is that yes, I believe as Christians we need to do a better job of living Christ like lives. I also think that sometimes we discount God's conviction on people's lives. Sometimes, it isn't us making them feel wrong, but the spirit working in that person's life.
Hating Christians is not solving the issue. Knowing how this gospel of love divides isn't the issue. We all have experienced that divide daily. The issue is how to fix it while upholding to the principles of Jesus Christ remembering every step of the way that we ARE NOT Jesus Christ. WE will make mistakes. WE will fail.

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)"...that explores the collision of faith and culture in America while opening up this important conversation to all of us,..."*** Therein lies one of the problems of Christians...They forever want to include everyone...It is NOT an IMPORTANT CONVERSATION TO US ALL!!I could care less about Christ, Christians, or any other superstitions or beliefs.....Why do people think that they somehow have to save the world?I see many Atheist who are quite happy with their lives. They are free of the neurosis that seems to manifest inside religious minds....The same people who feel a need to "spread the word" are usually people with no original thoughts or ideas of their own.
I don't need God, Christ, Buddha, Allah, the I-Ching, Tarot, Astrology, etc. etc. to be a good man....All I need is to pay attention to what my 5 senses tell me...Religion is for those who have something wrong with them...It's like medicine to a sick person.Kenny, you say "Religion is for those who have something wrong with them..." And atheism is not?
Excellent article, Abigail! You nailed it. Christians can and must love people and hate sin. True, we aren't doing a good enough job of either. But at least some of us are trying. The secular world just doesn't get it.
"Excellent article, Abigail! You nailed it. Christians can and must love people and hate sin. True, we aren't doing a good enough job of either. But at least some of us are trying. The secular world just doesn't get it."*** This is a common problem among Christians...They generalize too often, so it fits in with their neurosis...What do you mean the SECULAR WORLD DOESN'T GET IT?...Are you suggesting ALL non-believers are bad people, or unfit for society?...Are you saying ONLY CHRISTIANS know the way? What about the Jonestown massacres?...How would you like it if I said CHRISTIANS don't get it based on viewing the actions at Jonestown...I am smart enough to know that not all Christians would do such psychotic things.People are people, and believing and not believing in things makes for trouble eventually...I will be posting an essay I wrote 2 years ago titled, PROOF THAT GOD DOES NOT EXIST soon...I hope you give it serious consideration...Thank you for challenging me with your question in the earlier post...It's the only way we can truly learn from each........Kenny
