Is There A Danger In Kids With Long Hair?

The Mesquite Independent School District in Texas is being taken to task on the subject of long hair after a mom decided the school's grooming policy is not acceptable for her son.
Floppy hair had sent a 4-year-old Dallas-area boy to in-school suspension and now he finds himself on the agenda for a school board meeting.
The boy was place in suspension for violating the school's grooming policy.
It is an age old controversy. Are kids with long hair a disruption to the learning process. Should they be allowed in school?
Personally, I do not believe a child's haircut can disrupt school. Although I do believe a certain amount of respect should be given to authorities in charge of schools be it teachers, principals, school boards, etc.
The truth is it can be disrupted and that is why schools have enacted grooming policies. Should they be rewritten as times and fads change? I believe so.
In this particular case, I have to admit I have some strong feelings. While it breaks my heart to think of a four year old in suspension all day since November, I have to ask what the parents are thinking.
It is frustrating that a mom would not just cut the child's hair instead of trying to use their child to fight an argument they have. Let's be honest, a four year old is really not at the level to schedule protests. Like his hair long is one thing, but I am sure if he was explained the rules, he would not see this as an issue. The parents are making it the issue which is sad for the kid.
At some point, parents need to show respect for the school and its policies. It does not teach your children the amount of reverence that should be shown to those authority figures at school. Hence, the issues with the school system today.
I can not tell you how angry it makes me to see parents disrespect teachers and policies. For instance, I pick my child up every day at Parent pick-up at his school. Honestly, I hate sitting in the car rider line and the bus takes too long to get him home.
There are very simple policies for parent pick up. One is that you must be an authorized person on your child's pick up list. Two is that you have to have the school provided sign or a license for your child to be released.
As a parent, I want this because I want to know that my kid is going home safe every day. You will not believe the parents that complain constantly about having to have a sign with their children's names. They recruit kindergartner parents the first day and treat the teachers ugly just for requesting they follow the policy.
My response if that they can always do one of the other methods if they hate this policy so much. I do not think it sets a good example to ever yell at a teacher in front of a child, yet alone yelling at a teacher period.
Therefore, with the hair issue-cut the hair. Save your child the embarrassment or labeling that will come from this in the future. This is only pre-k after all, you do not want to burn bridges before your child even starts kindergarten.
