Porn For Scripture?

Leave it to college students to come up with some creative way to protest religion.

A group of atheist students at the University of Texas at San Antonio is offering pornography for religious texts other students trade in.

Their "Smut for Smut" campaign was started because the group feels texts such as the Bible are just as violent and pornographic.

Of course this event drew tons of protesters, supporters and those who wanted to take part-after all on a college campus you could probably guarantee a long line for free porn.

I have to admit that this story made my stomach turn. Honestly, porn is all over college campuses so the fact that these kids are looking at it is no surprise. It is after all what our society without morals is turning to  because of their constant preoccupation with instant gratification.

This is what I predict will happen, though. One day these kids will grow up and live with a ton of regrets when they come to the realization of the hurts that these actions have caused. Believe me, I speak from experience.

Granted, many will never come to that conclusion. For some, it is inevitable. It takes more faith to believe their is no afterlife or creator. Eventually, the sin will catch up with them.

The message an event like this should send is that the Bible is full of rich truth about people who faced the same struggles we face every day. If they can refer to it as "smut," don't you think it might be worth reading to find out what it has in it?

My advice is that before handing over that Bible so fast, read it and see how it transforms your life. There is something to be said about actually knowing what the text you are trashing says. I doubt these kids do. I am sure the stories they have heard over the years were taken out of context as opposed to the story of the gospel as a whole.

Scripture has a way of transforming people not that porn doesn't. Scripture just transforms in more of an everlasting way.

It is my prayer that many who attended this event on both sides of the issue, didn't do or say anything that they will regret at a later time.
